Figures, the basis of many people's collections. Here you'll find kids, Tomy, chupa, motion gallery, zukan and more!
Kid figures
Normal kid
Kid figures, the staple of most collections! At this point no red ones had been released so i repainted those two...and now more kids have been released including... red ones...oops!
Given the rarity of shiny kid figures (i don't think non lottery ones have ever been made either) i fully expected red genesect to go without one, especially since shiny legendary dogs had a film and they never made kids for them. It was surprising that they made his shiny version a regular release but i'm not complaining!

Extremespeed genesect kid
Technically counted as an 'attack' kid since genesect is in its extremespeed form.

pearly movie kid
Namco prize clear kids
Apparently these were winnable from some kind of game. I found this one on Y!j and flipped tables because i didn't have a deputy and was anxious of using one. Luckily my friend Cinivala understood my panicked keyboard mashing enough to give me some really great advice and make me a bit less nervous of the whole thing. Thanks dude! You're awesome <3
~Comparison shots with a normal kid~
Another prize kid, winnable from the same game. This kid was hard to find since it was available in arcades for a much shorter time than the other one.
Candy figures
Chupa candy figures - set 1 purple genesect
Japanese chupa candy figure -
This thing is tiny, only a few millimeters larger than the pokecen strap! On the left is the figure with the ball it came in and tag. These guys were blind packaged so were a pain to get...unless you paid a bit more to get the one you want, which i did >_<'
The balls were randomised too, so i'm glad i got my favourite ball - the master ball - with it. The ball and figure used to come with
a lolly/sucker but this one came with some really weird tasting candy. It was nice but more savoury in flavour than i'm used to. I thought it was soda flavour but was actually grape. Took me a while to figure out why it tasted so much like wine XD
The right picture i've added to give a sense of my surprise at the size of the figure: the abomasnow there is a European candy figure. It came in a ball similar to the one above (but a bit bigger and it included candy and stickers) so i was expecting much the same. As you can see, the japanese figure is super tiny compared to what i was expecting =P Also my figure seems to have an obvious 'birthmark' across it's face that doesn't show up too well on photographs. It's the darker area between it's eyes - they're not shadows!

Chupa candy figures - set 2 red and purple genesect
These are from the second, movie set of chupa figures. They came with mewtwo, charizard and some of the eeveelutions from the movie short (shame they didn't include sableye. Missed opportunities!).
Originally i was going to buy them separately but some number crunching showed that two cost the same as the whole set of ten, so i just got the lot =3 Lucky, as i fell in love with the sylveon and mewtwo figures as well. |
Motion gallery figure
The box art for the motion gallery figures
Motion gallery (formerly clipping) figure! I was a little worried about their size after buying the candy figure and expecting it to be much bigger as both figures were described as being the same size. Couldn't be more wrong! He's closer in size to the zukan than the candy figure. I've added a side by side comparison below to show the difference.
This figure is lovely =) not sure about the pose (he looks a little like he's trying to poop from some angles) but the quality of the figure is awesome and he doesn't seem to have suffered from same pose syndrome as of yet.
I particularly like the difference between the candy figure's 'hey, come get me!' cocky pose and the motion gallery's 'wait a second, lemme charge my laser' one.

A comparison between the motion gallery (left) and candy figure (right). They're quite different sizes and proportions with the motion gallery figure being much more bulky than the latter. Their colouring is different too - the motion gallery is coloured like the tomy supersize while the candy figure is lighter like the zukan. You probably wouldn't notice the differences but i'm a bit obsessive XD
Miscellaneous figures
purple Rumble U figure
Called scramble U in japan - it's a figure that works with a Wii U and a copy of pokemon rumble/scramble U
If you put the base on the right place on the Wii U you unlock the character of genesect in the game! Pretty cool but useless to me as i'm never planning on buying either the Wii U or the game. I'll take the figure though! =D
And what an interesting figure it is - it looks like one of those blocky polygonal models used in old 3D games.

Red rumble U figure (secret rare)
Rumble U figures have been released in Europe and America, yay!
All three sets were sold mixed together in capsules so you had a chance of getting 21 different types, 3 of which were rare shiny variants! (eevee, pikachu and genesect) I managed to snag one of these babies during full Rumble U fever, thanks to the awesome PKMNcollectors community. And i'm glad i did! |
Soap figure
keshipoke figures
Keshipoke are tiny figures inside small pokeball shaped erasers (although they're far too hard to erase anything!) that are absurdly hard to find once they're released which makes them sought after - and expensive.
I bought two boxes of these total (6 per box) and got lucky getting all the figures i wanted from the first box, including one of the secret rares! To put into perspective how cool this is, bulbapedia says that there is only one secret rare per carton, so roughly one rare every 6 boxes. Yay! This set included: genesect, red genesect, mewtwo, pikachu, eevee, charizard and the secret rares: sylveon and red extremespeed genesect. |
red extremespeed genesect (secret rare)
YES! Secret rare genesect!
I was about 1028484% positive i'd have to buy this on y!j for after market prices - but nope! I opened the last pack in the box and a masterball stared back at me! It makes me so happy to know i got this first try <33 This was really difficult to photograph because it's so tiny but... i tried XD |
Sukui doll (scooping game figure)
These are small, rubbery plastic figures (think rubber ducks) that are slightly smaller than kid figures and don't have a hole in the bottom.
They're called sukui or scooping figures because they belong to a type of carnival game where you have a 'net' made of paper and you have to 'scoop' as many toys up with it as you can before it breaks. They're apparently quite hard to get since they're only sold wholesale in bags of 10+ to businesses. Happily i didn't have too much trouble finding them since i found a shopping site selling them to the public. I still had to buy a lot of 10 but i love these things so i don't care! XD |
extremespeed pull back keychain
While this toy has a key ring on it, the figure is so massive (around 3 inches long) that it deserves to go here instead of the flat and charm or misc. sections.
This thing was a right pain to find, even with a deputy service. It's one of those movie exclusive items that no one offers pickups for and no one sells on auctions sites...so it just becomes so elusive after a while. Luckily PKMNcollectors are amazing and led me to a Japanese site selling movie goods including this awesome thing <3 |
Zukan
BW Zukan
Zukan! These beautifully crafted 1/40 scale figures are available in gashapon machines. Because of the scale these guys can get very tiny...or very huge (see: wailord). As it is, genesect here is the perfect size. Unfortunately the clear squares that hold him in place are a tad dodge and don't...hold him in place, so faceplanting is always the activity of the day. You can't see it in this pic, but he doesn't have that great of a paint job either....and a yellow nose >_< I love his base though, and the sculpting is very good. It matches the clear file very well.
The leaflet for this set. Scolipede made this set absurdly popular, not to mention chandelure and haxorus. I'm glad i pre-ordered him right away!
Red genesect movie zukan
Part of a set of zukan for the 16th movie. The set included all the eeveelutions which are way, way more popular so finding this was pretty easy (everyone wanted to get rid of the mewtwo and genesect ones DX ).
Red genesect pokemon fan magazine zukan
This zukan came with a mewtwo zukan and clear kid in pokemon fan magazine. It looks very similar to the original purple zukan in terms of pose but it's slightly different.
Tomy Figures
Supersize tomy
A tomy supersize figure! My first tomy - made with surprisingly bendy plastic. He's about 3", slightly smaller than my mewtwo ichiban kuji below. He also has either bad balance or a drink problem because he won't stand properly. Even when i get him to balance on his tiny match stick legs i hear the 'thump' of him falling over some time later. Currently he is very carefully balanced against my mewtwo diorama. Regardless! He's a big, awesome figure and i'm glad i have him =3
The red version of the tomy supersize figure. This guy gets quite washed out in photography ^_^'
Movie tomy supersize figure set
Large figures
Pose figure
Now, i freely admit that i nearly didn't bother getting this figure cause i thought it looked rubbish XD The stock picture given for it was the one below on the side of the box (the pic with the odd vines surrounding it) which i looked at, thought 'oh god it's basically another tomy. PASS!' and moved on. It wasn't until i found it on rakuten that i decided to cave for the sake of ultimate figure completion. When it arrived, well, it was quite bigger than expected =P
I thought it would be a similar size to the supersize tomy...

Story time!
A few months ago now, someone posted a video on PKMNcollectors of some of Tomy's up and coming products. On it there were the usual Tomy figures, supersize, hypersize, a catching game with pokeballs and a pokemon center carrying case...but what caught my attention was two moving, fighting figures at the back. One was charizard and the other...genesect! They didn't talk about them on the video but i wanted to know more! Soon after, the post must have been deleted because i found nothing about it. I searched for months for that moving genesect on google, asked about it on PKMNcollectors...but nothing whatsoever. It seemed not to exist: was i imagining it?
....
Nope! Turns out its a figure from the new NEO range which features pokemon like mewtwo and the Kanto starters.

At around 5-6 inches tall, these are the largest genesect figures to be released! (before the change action! anyway).
A little something about these figures though: despite the manufacturer's description stating it, these guys aren't actually plastic kits of any kind. As you see, they arrive in their boxes mostly assembled like the pose figures before them. All you need to do is attach the arms, legs and wheels and you're set (there's an instruction manual on how to do this if you get lost (?!) ). They also come with a drive each (the normal yellow one) and a useless grey block thing. The manual instructions for it point vaguely in the direction of genesect's butt. I...don't know. Nothing actually works and it won't fit anywhere because of the wheels, so i'm not too sure what that's about. A comparison shot here - this thing's massive! To put it into perspective, this figure is the same size as the red genesect pokedoll. It's also a very sturdy figure - you're not going to break it in a hurry, let me tell you =P
Also, although i haven't captured it, i've had a play with it's gimmick: it can move. Or more precisely, genesect makes a loud whirring noise, moves a few steps forward and "fires" it's cannon three or four times. |

Lottery figures
B prize red genesect statue
This is it! One of two prize statues from this years 7-11 ichiban kuji!
For those of you who don't know, the ichiban kuji is a lottery held at 7-11 stores in Japan where you pay 500 yen per go (around $5 or £3.30). Depending how many tries you bought, you can take out that many tickets from a container. It's sort of like a raffle in this country except i believe you always win a prize. As such, there is a much higher concentration of smaller prizes (straps, charms, towels, stationary etc.) with medium prizes (bowls, cups, small figures) being slightly scarcer and top prizes (large figures, plush) being almost impossible to win. Usually there are only 1-5 A,B and C prizes out of 100 total, so they tend to be highly sought after and expensive when resold. Also, some lotteries have 'last chance' and 'double chance' items which sell for big bux because they're very, very hard to win, (last chance is only won if you manage to take the last ticket in the container) coupled with the tendency for these items to be different colour versions of the larger figures (or a unique figure in of themselves) they attract a lot of competition on auction sites.
Anyhoo, who cares about that? On to the figure!

Forgive the weird graininess on these pictures - basically my computer exploded and, long story short, i had to do all my editing on a 9+ year old computer which blew the picture quality to smithereens. And also made me very angry. Moving on!

The paint job is really, really nice on these guys as is the sculpting. They've thoughtfully added some texture to the rock background with some paint effects too. Lovely!

I have to admit, when news of genesect having a figure in the lottery leaked i was actually pretty worried about it. Last year's kuji had those beautiful kyurem and keldeo figures which were dynamic and gorgeous and...became sought after and expensive because of it. Before that we had the zekrom and reshiram statues with the 'chess board' stand/diorama which was also very pretty...and expensive. Basically, i was sure that they would go for crazy prices and i would never have the dosh to own one.
Luckily (?) when they released pictures the interest deflated like a sad balloon because the statues are just...a bit boring i guess, compared to the ultra dynamic keldeo of the year before. It ended up good for me because there was very little competition (well, lack of interest and...pricey shipping since they're so heavy). Despite being a bit different to how i expected them to be (rocky base? The movie takes place in the city. I was expecting something futuristic or industrial) i still really love this thing. The stock photos do it no justice whatsoever - it's beautiful in person, the sculpting is great and the overall finish is really crisp.

Red genesect pokedoll figure
Pokedoll stuff is very popular and collectible, more so than many other styles of item since non plush pokedoll items are hard to find and very cute. They're often pokemon center promotions or lottery prizes and as such get made in a relatively small quantity for a small amount of time. The red genesect items released around movie day (July 13th) are no exception.
I bought most of the pokedoll related items straight away to avoid not being able to find them later.
