Pokemon center plush
Pokecen plush! These guys are 10" tall exclusively from the pokemon center. The normal coloured one was available from the 26th of Dec 2012 for a month and the red one was available around March 2013.
The normal one started off my collection of this guy so i'm quite fond of him ^_^ The plush are quite big and nice, but they have to link arms to sit up at all, an ongoing problem with turning genesect's design into toys and plush. They're also made from a not very soft material.
On the plus side, the colours are very pretty, maybe a tad too pastel for a normal plush (genesect canvas would look awesome though!) but i'm quite fond of pastel so it's alright =P The tags are also very large and use different images for each plush instead of just recolouring one of them. I appreciate your effort, pokecen!

Pokedolls
GENESECT POKEDOLL AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH
It's soooo cute i can't believe it but taking flattering pictures of it is impossible T_T
See, i have a love/hate relationship with pokedolls, so while i was happy for a new genesect plush i was also expecting to be very disappointed. I fell in love with the cyndaquil pokedoll, searched everywhere, bought it, got it home and ended up hating everything about it (though it's growing on me). The totodile one also ended up being derp central so i decided not to have expectations for this plush. The stock photos for the thing weren't promising either and no one on the comm had bought or commented on one, so i thought they must have turned out hideous. Happily that isn't the case!
I opened the lovely sunyshore package and emitted ultrasound level piercing squeals for this guy and my golden karp. They're really herping all the derps but i love them that way - it's a part of their charm!

So yeah, i really love the pokedoll, it beats the pokecen plush by miles. The pokecen is nice, it has a great character about it (read: derpy) and is more 'masculine' in design, but it loses points for material. It is made from some kind of velboa like my american pokedolls and as such i can't stand the feel of it.
Pokedoll!genesect is almost entirely minky and soft to the touch. His detailing is done in a similar fabric to the pokecen and has some kind of plasticy paint? stuff on his shoulder pad things but it's done well and isn't overly coarse. I was worried after everyone on the comm talked about the liberal use of felt that his shoulder pads and other details would be done that way too, but it doesn't seem to be the case. The shoulder pads are minky with something stiff in the middle to hold the shape. The only problem i can foresee is if you happen to be obsessive about perfect plush - all of my genesect plush have a slight tilt to their heads and cannons which i personally find charming but could be a pain to perfectionists. Also, the colour of the pokedoll art on the tag is...off. Sort of a dark indigo instead of purple, but that's one nitpick of an otherwise amazing plush.
Poseable tomy plush
Poseable plush! These guys are HUGE! They're meant to be 12" tall but they seem a lot larger than that, especially compared to the apparently 10" pokecen plush. They're big, they're made from minky (and a little bit of velboa and felt) and you can pose them. They even stand! The wiring in the legs is very thick which means the legs ended up larger than the rest of the body which is a little odd to look at, but these genesect are so chubby that a little more bootie on them isn't such a bad thing! Their sturdy legs have stiff fabric or card at the bottom, so (when you get juuust the right angle) they stand quite solidly. What's not to love right?
Well, they're unfortunately only half poseable. It would only be a small issue, but they're sold as pose change plush, so having full pose-ability is key for me. They have wires in their legs which allow movement and a wire in their torso but they're missing any kind of wiring in their arms and back cannon. The torso wire goes up into the neck but it's so wonky that the head isn't movable because of it. I'm assuming it's deliberate because both of my plush have it, but looking at the box...i'm not so sure.

On the front of the box is a TRY ME! picture with arrows indicating the arms. I'm pretty sure it's meant to be the arms, because the legs aren't fully visible in the picture and if that's what they were indicating, the picture would be focusing on the legs instead. Also, why would a poseable plush be advertising trying the arms when they're not poseable? Now, on the back of the box is the same thing with stock photos indicating the legs and arms can be moved.
I don't know Japanese so i can't tell by what they're saying, but i'm wondering: Are the diagrams really misleading or are my plush actually defects?
The second diagram on each box is very vague. Like, it's vaguely in the area of the arms but it could be showing another movement of the legs (though why you'd need two pictures explaining that i don't know).
(Edit 10/7/13: Ok, turns out it's just extremely poor and misleading advertising because a few other people have said they have the same issue with the arms. Not impressed, but at least i know they're not defects!)
